Translate the following expressions into Japanese.

 

1.   Are you from Japan?

      Okuni wa nihon desu ka.

      おくにはにほんですか。

 

  1. No, I’m not from Japan.

Iie, (watashi no) (kuni wa) nihon ja arimasen.

いいえ、（わたしの）（くには）にほんじゃありません。

 

  1. I’m sorry

Sumimasen./Gomen nasai.

            すみません。／ごめんなさい。

 

  1. Don’t mention it.

  1. Hello, is this Tanaka’s house? (on the phone)

Moshimoshi, tanaka san no otaku desu ka.

もしもし、たなかさんのおたくですか。

 

  1. No, you’ve got the wrong number.

Iie, chigaimasu kedo…

いいえ、ちがいますけど…。

 

  1. Oh, I’m very sorry.

Aa, (doomo) sumimasen.

ああ、（どうも）すみません。

 

  1. That’s all right.

Iie.

いいえ。

 

  1. I’m sorry for what I did today.

Kyoo wa sumimasen deshita.

きょうはすみませんでした。

 

  1. I’m sorry for what I did yesterday.

Kinoo wa sumimasen deshita.

きのうはすみませんでした。

 

 

  1. I’m terribly sorry.

(Doomo) mooshiwake gozaimasen.

（どうも）もうしわけございません。

 

  1. Where is Mr. Tanaka’s house?

Tanaka san no otaku wa dochira desu ka.

たなかさんのおたくはどちらですか。

 

  1. What is Mary’s hobby?

Mearii san no goshumi wa nan desu ka.

メアリーさんのごしゅみはなんですか。

 

  1. It is reading.

Dokusho desu.

            どくしょです。

 

Read the following sentences and write them in Rooma-ji. Then translate them into English.

 

 

A: もしもし。

      Moshimoshi.

      “Hello.”

 

B: やまださんのおたくですか。

      Yamada san no otaku desu ka.

      “Is this Yamada’s residence?”

 

A: いいえ、ちがいます。

      Iie, chigaimasu.

      “No, it’s not. (Lit. No, that’s wrong.)”

 

B: すみません、まちがえました。

      Sumimasen, machigaemashita.

      “Sorry, I made a mistake.”

 

A: いいえ。

      Iie.
